Board President-Elect - 2013-15 (Board President 2015-17)
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) has elected William D. Allen, Ph.D., as its President-Elect. His two-year term begins in November and he will assume the organization's presidency two years thereafter in 2015. Dr. Allen is the owner of Healing Bonds, a family therapy practice in Minneapolis, MN.
Dr. Allen has been very active in NCFR, serving as a member of its Inclusion and Diversity Committee (IDC) and as Program Chair for the 2006 NCFR Annual Conference. He also served on the NCFR Board of Directors, the Elections Council as Co-Chair, Men in Families Focus Group, the Minnesota Council on Family Relations (MCFR): Ethical Thinking and Practice Program Committee.
Dr. Allen has been active in other organizations as well. He belongs to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Minnesota Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT), Cultural Providers Network, MN (CPM), and the Minnesota Association of Black Psychologists (MNABPsy).
"Contemporary families present new challenges as innovative technologies create opportunities for family members but often unexpected constraints to healthy family process," Dr. Allen says. "The increasing diversity within and between world communities pushes the very definition of terms like marriage and family. Throughout its history, NCFR's leaders have helped preserve its role as the preeminent resource on family science. I want to continue that tradition and I believe our many cultural backgrounds, research foci, professional settings, and experience levels are the building blocks that will make NCFR an even more effective resource for family scientists, practitioners, and policymakers, here and around the world."
