Officer Job Descriptions

Officers and committees are very instrumental in the operations of the NCFR. They take responsibility for maintaining contact with the membership and for reflecting the needs of all NCFR members. The purpose of these descriptions is to assist the Elections Council in their selection of well-qualified candidates and to provide a basis from which members can direct their professional development in terms of increased service to the association.

Board of Directors

The dues-paying Members of NCFR are the moral and legal owners of NCFR in whose interests the Board of Directors acts. The purpose of the Board, on behalf of the members of NCFR, is to see to it that NCFR (a) achieves appropriate results for appropriate persons at an appropriate cost, and (b) avoids unacceptable actions and situations.

Affiliate Councils President-Elect

The Affiliate Councils President-Elect shall serve on the National Council on Family Relations Board of Directors for a two-year term, and shall represent concerns of the members of the Affiliate Councils. This position shall assume the presidency of the Affiliate Councils for a two-year term following his or her term as President-Elect.

Student/New Professional Board Representative

The Student/New Professional serves a two-year term as a voting member of the Board of Directors.

Student/New Professional Board Representative-Elect

The Student/New Professional Board Representative-Elect of the National Council on Family Relations serves a one-year term as a non-voting member on the Board of Directors. After serving their one-year term, this position will move to the position of Student/New Professional Board Representative. Student/New Professional Board Representative will serve a two-year term as a voting member of the Board of Directors.

Annual Conference Program Chair-Elect

The Annual Conference Program Chair-elect of the National Council on Family Relations serves a two-year term, one year as Conference Program Chair-elect, proceeding to Conference Program Chair the following year, and planning the conference program their second year.

Elections Council

The Elections Council gathers nominations for the offices of the NCFR Board and other offices of NCFR. The members of the Elections Council shall be elected by the full membership of NCFR and serve a three-year term.

Fellows Committee

The Fellows Committee is elected by the full NCFR membership to recommend the honorary title of "NCFR Fellow" to the Board, which bestows the title on NCFR members distinguished by their record of service and scholarship in the family field. The members of the Fellows Committee serve a three-year term.

Inclusion and Diversity Committee

The purpose of the Inclusion and Diversity Committee (IDC) is to (a) identify the inclusion and diversity strengths, issues, and opportunities within all aspects of NCFR; (b) develop strategies and plans to examine ways in which we include and exclude (however unintentionally) NCFR members; (c) systematically examine aspects of NCFR to enhance its effectiveness and ability to meet the needs of its diverse membership; and (d) respectfully celebrate and document the successes of inclusivity approaches. The IDC serves the NCFR Board of Directors by engaging our shared experiences, and promoting a community of respect that honors the humanity of all.

Student/New Professional Program Representative

The Student/New Professional Program Representative serves as a member of the Annual Conference Program Committee for a two-year term representing the Student/New Professionals of the organization.

Section Chairs and Section Officers

The Section Chairs and Section Officers represent the members of the Section and serve a two-year term. Responsibilities and duties are outlined in the individual Section bylaws.
