Elections Council
The Elections Council gathers nominations for the offices of the NCFR Board and other offices of NCFR. The members of the Elections Council shall be elected by the full membership of NCFR and serve a three-year term.
MEMBERSHIP
The Elections Council shall consist of six active NCFR members elected by the voting membership, plus one nonvoting member of the Board of Directors. Terms of offices for Elections Council Members shall be staggered so that each year two new members are elected to three-year terms. The Elections Council members should represent a balanced distribution based on NCFR membership. The Elections Council meets face to face in the spring (expenses paid) and at the Annual Conference.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To prepare a slate of two candidates for each open slot who meet the selection criteria for each Board position as defined by the positions and/or Board Charge (i.e. President-elect, Board Member-at-Large, Affiliate Councils President-elect, Student/New Professional Board Representative, Student/New Professional Board Representative-elect, Annual Conference Program Chair-elect, Student/New Professional Program Representative, Elections Council and Fellows Committee.) The Council has the prime responsibility within NCFR for weighing the merits of potential Board candidates.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Knowledge and/or experience in areas reflecting broad trends in Family Science in the United States and internationally
- Knowledge and/or experience with policy governance and the development of END policies
- Knowledge and/or experience in leadership roles through Sections, Association of Councils, Elections Council, Conference planning, publishing, public policy, or other committee work
- Diversity with regards to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, disability, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender identity, or status regarding public assistance as outlined in Article XIV of the Non-Discrimination policy
- Diversity of geographic location
- Diversity in educational training
- Diversity in employment and/or professional settings
- Special characteristics identified by the Board of Directors and charged to the Elections Council before the call for nominations is developed and circulated
- The Elections Council will ensure that teach Board has members who have demonstrated special sensitivity and accomplishments in diversity issues in NCFR and the broader society
