All of the NCFR Sponsored Awards are designated for the purpose of providing a guaranteed source of revenue for a financial award. The money is donated to/ by an organization, with the stipulation that it be invested, and that the principle remain intact. This allows for the donation to have a much greater impact over a longer period of time.

Cindy Winter Scholarship Award (SNP)

This biannual (odd years) award recognizes Cindy Winter, NCFR's Conference Director from 1964-2007. It honors a student or new professional who has demonstrated outstanding leadership/service in the discipline of family studies.

Mary Jo Czaplewski

Czaplewski Fellowship Award

Past presidents of NCFR established this Fellowship in Administration in honor of retired Executive Director Mary Jo Czaplewski. She served as NCFR's chief executive from 1984 to 1999. Its purpose is to provide funding to support the efforts of family scholars who want to obtain and make mid-career moves into administration.

Felix Berardo Award

Felix Berardo Scholarship Award for Mentoring

The Felix Berardo Scholarship Award for Mentoring is given in honor of Dr. Felix Berardo, a well-known and beloved professor from the University of Florida, who went above and beyond expectations in mentoring many students to become outstanding leaders in the family field. The award recognizes an NCFR member whose work has been noted for excellence in mentoring one or more junior colleagues.

This award is given to an NCFR graduate student member who has demonstrated excellence as a student and shows high potential for contribution to the discipline of family studies.

Ruth Jewson Photo

Ruth Hathaway Jewson Award (SNP)

This award is given in honor of Ruth Hathaway Jewson, NCFR's second executive director. It funds the  the best dissertation proposal submitted by a doctoral candidate in the field of family studies. Dr. Jewson was responsible for expanding NCFR's membership from a small organization to over 4,000 members when she retired. When Dr. Jewson was in her 60s and working full time at NCFR, she took courses and earned her masters' degree and then went on to complete her doctorate, including her dissertation on "The Retired Professional Woman" which in the 1970s there were very few retired professional women.
