Marie E. Peters Award

Purpose:

The Marie Peters award was established in 1983 for the purpose of recognizing distinguished scholars, researchers and practitioners who have made significant contributions to the area of ethnic minority families. The award is presented in memory of Marie E. Peters who was a distinguished scholar, researcher, practitioner, and mentor, as well as an illustrious member of the NCFR, a Board Member, and the Ethnic Minorities Section leader.

Award (Plaque, Money, Recognition, where presented, etc.):

The award winner receives a $500 cash award and a plaque. Award is presented biannually (odd years) at the beginning of a plenary session. The Marie Peters Address is given at the Annual Conference in the year the award is presented (odd years).

Criteria:

  • Leadership and/or mentoring
  • Scholarship and/or service - research, publication, teaching, community service
  • Contribution to the Ethnic Minorities Section
  • Contribution to the National Council on Family Relations
  • Current membership in NCFR and the Ethnic Minorities Se3ction


Nomination/Application Process:

  • Letter of nomination made by a member of NCFR, along with two additional letters of support;
  • One letter of support must be submitted by a member of the Ethnic Minorities Section;
  • The nomination letter and two letters of support should highlight ways in which the nominee meets the established criteria for the Marie Peters Award;
  • The nominator will be responsible for collecting all of the documents for the nomination packet: 1) curriculum vitae/resume, 2) letters of support, 3) additional information at the request of the award selection committee.


Deadline for Application:

Application deadline is May 1st.  All materials may be submitted electronically to jeannestrand@ncfr.org. The recipient will be notified by July 31st.
