Faith, Ethics and the Helping Professions

April 15, 2011
Messiah College - Grantham, PA

Approved for CFLE Continuing Education Crediit (2 Contact Hours/.2 CEUs)

This conference has been designed to provide a forum in which participants can learn about the important ethical principles involved in considering the incorporation of the faith-related issues in the context of therapy. Although religion is important in the lives of most Americans, mental health professionals may be uncertain on how to integrate religious or spiritual issues into therapy, or to address religious issues that arise in therapy. This workshop explores ways that mental health professionals can address religious issues in therapy in a manner that attempts to maximize respect for patients autonomy and well-being.

Sponsored by: Messiah College

Objectives:

  1. Respect patient autonomy when integrating religious and spiritual issues into therapy
  2. Capitalize on the religious or spiritual strengths of patients
  3. Rely on a decision making format when ethical conflicts arise
