More Than Just Mean Girls - A Series on Relational Aggression
Approved for CFLE Continuing Education Credit (5 Contact Hours/.5 CEUs)
The 2010-2011 Lessons from the Field series focuses on "Relational Aggression" (RA). As Dr. Crick described in the first seminar this year, RA is the most common type of interpersonal violence among girls and is often covert and difficult to detect. While much attention and research has focused on physical aggression among children and adolescents, less attention has been given to the kind of damage that occurs with RA, including social exclusion and spreading rumors that encourage peers to reject a classmate.
The third conference in the series on "Relational Aggression" is April 15, 2011. The day is divided into a morning and an afternoon session. From 9:00 am-12:30 pm, Dr. Stephen Leff and local community experts will talk about prevention and intervention programs that address relational aggression. During the afternoon session from 12:30 pm-4:00 pm, attendees will form break-out groups to look more in depth at intervention/application issues within various disciplines, contexts, and cultures.
The event will be held on the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus, as well as other host sites across Minnesota. We anticipate a large response to this event and urge you to register early. Dr. Leff has a national reputation for his work in Philadelphia working with school communities to plan and intervene to reduce relational aggression.
