There is compelling evidence that service-learning is an effective strategy for improving academic learning. But how can teachers set up rewarding and meaningful community partnerships? A service-learning expert will provide guidelines for ensuring a successful program that will lead to a deeper understanding of course material. You will emerge with new ideas, time-saving steps, and a passion for this unique way to connect theory and practice.

Participants will learn and discuss:

  • How to distinguish service-learning from community service
  • Reasons why incorporating service-learning into a program facilitates learning for students and particpants
  • Ways to create connections with the community to promote service-learning and child development
  • How a service-learning activity was created that promoted play for children and paretns through a community Play Day
