The format for this seminar includes a series of "conversations" designed to connect research and practice. Dr. Kathleen Thomas and Dr. Anne Gearity will discuss what research does and does not tell us about cognitive development and how this informs trauma work and health promotion. Ms. Molly Kenney and Ms. Michelle Fallon will describe the training program they developed with Dr. Gearity for implementation at the Crisis Nursery, Hennepin County. They will discuss the ways the training program has significantly impacted staff interactions with infants, children, and families and how staff care for themselves in the midst of emotionally challenging work. They will also identify key components that are applicable in a variety of settings and with children and youth of all ages. 

Objectives:
  1. Integrate use of five key protective factors in their work with children and Families
  2. Initiate a plan for reflective practice
  3. Adapt at least three research-informed principles into their work
Target Audience:

The seminar content is applicable for professionals who work with children and adolescents. The target audience includes: child protection workers, day-care providers, educators, public health workers, nurses, psychologists, social workers, graduate students and pediatric and primary care physicians.

Fee: 
$50/person for Metro site and $25/person for Greater Minnesota Sites, $20 for students
