Upgrading from Provisional to Full Certification
CFLEs with Provisional Certification must document and submit sufficient family life education work experience activity within five years of their original month of certification in order to upgrade their designation to Full status. For example: A Provisional CFLE certified in May 2007 would need to upgrade their designation by May 2012.
The number of hours of work experience needed varies depending on the level and relevance of the applicants degree.
Requirements for Full Certification | Bachelor's Degree | Master's or Ph.D. Degree |
Family Degree | 3,200 hours work experience | 1,600 hours work experience |
Non-family Degree | 4,800 hours work experience | |
Provisional CFLEs can upgrade at any time after they have acquired the required amount of family life education work experience hours, but it is helpful to submit the upgrade materials as close as possible to their anniversary month to avoid double paying the CFLE Annual fee, which is included in the Upgrade fee.
If you are already a Provisional CFLE and want to upgrade to Full Certification be sure to use the FLE Work Experience Summary Form - Upgrade.
