Congratulations to Kristy Jones, Crestwood High School Family Consumer Science teacher on her award from the Ohio Association Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (OATFACS) as Teacher of the Year. The purpose of this award is to recognize teachers who are providing outstanding career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in their respective career fields and communities. Recipients of this award must have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs that are serving to improve and promote career technical education.
There will be lots of special events of interest to current and future Certified Family Life Educators (CFLE) at the 73rd Annual NCFR Conference in Orlando, Florida. Be sure to attend!

The Mid-Atlantic Council on Family Relations and the Department of Human Development and Family Science at Messiah College will be co-sponsoring a half day workshop on Latino families on Tuesday, October 18, 1:00-4:00 in Parmer Cinema (Boyer Hall), at Messiah College in Grantham.
New Ground-breaking Article on Family Life Education Published

The National Council on Family Relations, in its October issue of Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Studies, published a ground-breaking article in the field of family life education "Reconceptualizing the Domain and Boundaries of Family Life Education." Authors are Judith A. Myers-Walls from Purdue University, Sharon M. Ballard from East Carolina University, Carol Anderson Darling from Florida State University and Karen S. Myers-Bowman from Kansas State University. This work sets forth a new model to illustrate how family life education is unique from the fields of family therapy and social work case management.

Dr. Julia Malia has been awarded CFLE Emeritus status in recognition of her work in teaching and research relevant to family life education. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in a variety of marriage and family courses at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
NCFR is pleased to announce that Dr. Deborah Gentry, CFLE, has been appointed as the new NCFR Academic Program Liaison. She will be replacing Mary Bold who has held the position for the past three years. We want to thank Mary for her service and contribution to the Academic Program Review!
We're Here, We're Here! Help NCFR promote Family Life Education

In an effort to increase awareness and understanding of family life education, NCFR is leading an effort to have February declared as Family Life Education Month throughout the country.
Only about half of parents with annual incomes of less than $25,000 expect their child will attain a four-year-college degree, compared with more than eight in ten parents with incomes over $75,000.
Over 160 people attended the CFLE Dinner in Minneapolis on November 3rd. The evening provided an opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) designation and to recognize the people responsible for its success.
