Department of Sociology

About the Program

Last Updated:
September 06, 2012

Graduate students can specialize in one of three concentrations: Family, Health, and Life Course; Race and Urban Studies; and Gender and Sexuality. Undergraduate students can complete a General Program in Sociology or specialize in one of four concentrations: Family, Health, and Life Course; Race and Urban Studies; Gender and Sexuality; and Gerontology. Within these specializations, however, there is a fair amount of flexibility for students to pursue topics of interest. The broad knowledge of sociology comes through course work in a variety of substantive areas, as well as through training in research methodology, statistics, and theory. Qualified students are accepted into the joint M.A./Ph.D. program after their completion of a baccalaureate degree.
