About the Program

Last Updated:
September 20, 2012

The Human Services Program at Stevenson University prepares students for careers in human services and/or for graduate school in programs such as marriage and family therapy, social work, counseling, and school counseling. Underlying the program's curriculum is the belief that the most effective way to learn about people and about how to help them is by actually interacting with them. Therefore, hands-on experiences in the field are a significant part of the program. The curriculum focuses on theory, research, and application. Coursework is composed of (1) courses that fulfill the College's liberal arts requirements, (2) courses that examine the development of functioning of families and individuals, and (3) skills courses that focus on how to help families and individuals. The Human Services Program has been accredited with the Council on Standards for Human Service Education (CSHSE).
