For a number of years a group of Minnesota parenting educators have worked together to develop the document Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework: A Comprehensive Guide to Planning Curriculum for Parent Education Programs in the Domains of Parent Development, Parent-Child Relationships, Early Childhood Development, Family Development, and Culture and Community. It has recently been updated and is available online and in hard copy through the National Parenting Education Network (NPEN) website.
The National Parenting Education Network (NPEN) is a national umbrella organization that encourages information sharing and professional development and networking for professionals, paraprofessionals and volunteers who serve as parenting educators throughout the United States and in other countries. Its mission is commitment to advancing the field of parenting education.
This brief summarizes a longer Social Policy Report. A quarter of the world's youngest children suffer one or more forms of severe deprivation and risk, such as poverty, disease, and exposure to violence. Early childhood development (ECD) programs are considered one of the most promising approaches to providing more equitable outcomes for deprived and at-risk children and families. While the number of children and families served by ECD programs has grown, research shows that without a concurrent commitment to program quality, potential gains for children may be lost and glaring disparities in outcomes maintained.
Smart Parenting Smarter Kids covers all ages from birth through the teen years. It provides solid scientific information over a range of topics like nutrition, exercise, play, sleep, differences between boys' and girls' brains, how to raise a child's IQ, attention, attention and distraction, video game and Internet addiction, the right and wrong way to praise kids, special needs brains, and more. Each chapter contains practical tips and suggestions.
