INTERNATIONAL SECTION BUSINESS MEETING
November 8, 2007
National Council on Family Relations Annual Conference - Pittsburgh, PA
1. The meeting was presided by Dr. Shulamit Ritbblat, International Section Chair (2005-2007). Welcome and introductions were presented.
2. A report on this year conference presentations was provided. There were several presentations on international issues at this conference.
3. Dr. Ritbblat encouraged all the section members to submit proposals for presentations to the next NCFR conference and to volunteer to be reviewers.
4. Report on mentoring / hosting international newcomers. We hope to increase the number of international colleagues and students participating in the conference.
5. Finance report. The Section has around $2,300 in the account. Efforts to increase this funding are made through the Silent Auction organized at each conference.
6. Budget. There is a new implementation of NCFR free section membership policy starting with January 1st, 2008. Each section will receive from NCFR $2,500.
7. Silent Auction. We want to thank all of the donors and buyers of auction items. A discussion about how this money should be used followed. Suggestions such as waiving the registration fee for international students or to have student awards were made.
8. Jan Trost Award criteria. A motion to approve the Jan Trost Award criteria was raised and approved.
9. Jan Trost recipient award for this year is Dr. Stephan Wilson.
10. Jan Trost monetary award. A motion to approve $250 be attached to the award was raised (by Dr. Ritblatt) and approved.
11. Dr. Jan Trost presented the history of developing the International Section.
12. Bron’s Ingoldsby memorial fund’s update (by Dr. P. Schvaneveldt). NCFR needs to formalize the paperwork for an award in Dr. Ingoldsby’s memory to be given to a student in Latin America.
13. Fund raising opportunity: Cookbook. Dr. Ritblatt suggested we collect recipes and family stories and develop an album for fundraising. Those interested in supporting this project should contact her.
14. Appreciations of outgoing officers and welcome of the new ones were presented.
15. Eric Olson from the United Nations Program on the Family – presented information on this program and on international issues concerning families.
16. As part of the 30th Anniversary of the Section Dr. Jane Rose Njue sang traditional African songs and a beautiful cake was served to the participants to the meeting.
