Conference videos...a learning resource

Editor's note:  See the message below from Dr. Clara Gerhardt, Professor of Family Studies, Samford University, on use of conference video in class.

"Yesterday I had to take a colleague's class.  We arranged for the class to see the plenary lecture from the last NCFR conference by Benjamin Karney about couple intimacy in low-income marriages.  Bottom line, what a wonderful lecture, and what an inspiring resource to share.

Many of our students told me they were so fascinated by it that they kept on thinking about the concepts.... the meta learning that took place encouraged them to see the principles of research in action.

Again I am grateful to NCFR to reach out much, much wider than the conference...in this way the conference came right into our classroom, and it was shared with family studies majors where it made a difference and added to their insight of the family and their motivation to become CFLEs.

So this, I would say, was a defining CFLE moment for several students."
