About your membership period
Your membership officially starts on the first day of the month that you join (or renew) and continues for a 12-month period. However, to insure that you get at least a full year of member benefits, those benefits always continue for an additional 30 days. So if you joined on October 15, 2012, your official membership period is October 1, 2012, to September 30, 2013. But your benefits will continue until the end of October 2013.
