Family History--get it before it's gone
In this blog, I am documenting a piece of family history. My late mother was the Valedictorian of her high school class. I'm sorting through boxes of her things, and I found her valedictory address from 1944. She oft told the story of her high school science teacher who said "the atom will never be split." Of course we know now that in 1944, the top secret Manhattan Project was well underway and that in just over a year, the first thermonuclear bomb was dropped on Japan. A bit of history. And I was able to scan it before the paper brittle disintegrated. I encourage everyone to make electronic copies of family history such as this speech. There was just one yellowed fragile copy left.
