Presented by: Shelbi Day, J.D., was a member of the ACLU’s legal team that represented Martin Gill, a South Florida gay man, in a case declaring unconstitutional Florida’s law prohibiting gay men and lesbians from adopting children. During her tenure at the ACLU of Florida, which began in 2008, Shelbi has worked on a range of civil rights issues on behalf of LGBT individuals and their families. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and currently teaches a seminar on Sexuality and the Law. Prior to joining the ACLU of Florida’s LGBT Advocacy Project, Shelbi was a Staff Attorney at the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Southern Legal Counsel, Inc. From 2002 to 2003, Shelbi served as a law clerk to the Honorable Charles R. Wilson of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
