Finances and Relationships across the Life-Span

Presented by: Kelly Campbell, James C. Kaufman, Tiffany D. Ogden, Tessy T. Pumaccahua, Kristy L. Archuleta, John E. Grable, Sonya L. Britt, R. Roudi Nazarinia-Roy, Anthony Walker

The focus of this symposium is an evaluation of finances and relationships across the life-span. The presenters found: 1) wedding rituals were related to relationship satisfaction but unrelated to commitment; 2) a person's perceived satisfaction with financial decisions predict marital satisfaction; 3) when spousal income was different, perceptions of household labor tasks were predictive of wives', but not husbands' relationship satisfaction; 4) gender differences in the amount of support received over four generations. Our discussant will identify commonalities across the papers and comment on implications for education and enrichment programs
