Health and Wellness Effects of Home Foreclosure on Families and Communities
Presented by: Shonda Marie Craft, Sara Axtell, Leola Crawford, Raymond Dehn, Aasim Shabazz, Tisa Thomas, Makeda Zulu-Gillespie
In these times of economic stress, many families have experienced the loss of their homes. The majority of the scholarly and practical attention of the foreclosure crisis has focused on economic dimensions. A gap in research and service delivery has been the area of individual, family and community health and wellness. The objective of this research project was to utilize an action research approach to identify how foreclosure affects the health and wellness of individuals, families, and communities, and to document strategies of resilience. Research findings, research implications, recommendations, and pilot data from a foreclosure support group will be discussed.
