Striking a Balance and Need for Support: Work-life Balance Issues of Graduate Student Parents

Presented by: Arminta Jacobson, Gladys Hildreth, Victoria Calvin

This workshop will explore work-life balance issues of graduate student-parents. Graduate student-parents struggle to balance the demands of work and family, often in environments that provide them little support. As the number of graduate students continues to increase, institutions need to consider how to serve this group.  This workshop includes a discussion of the unique issues and implications for support of graduate student-parents and how to address these issues in family studies literature. Through group activities, participants will use this information to examine a work-life balance case study involving graduate student-parents and provide recommendations regarding how to support this group.
