Development of Parenthood Within Socio-cultural Contexts of Korea

Presented by: Young In Kwon, Kwang Man Ko, In Jee Kim, Sook Hyun Lee, Hye Rim Shin, Woo Sang Hwang, Na Yeon Lee, Se In Lee

In this symposium, we attempt to show diverse aspects of Korean parenting and connect their roles with unique Korean context. The symposium consists of four studies. We try to provide broad information about Korean parenting by including studies about both mothering and fathering. In addition, by containing quantitative and qualitative inquiries, we provide in-depth knowledge about how Korean fathers and mothers understand their own behaviors as well as important contextual factors related to their parenting. . Exploration of Korean parenting could help understanding how people adjust their parenting roles and re-develop the notion of parenthood within rapidly changing contexts.
