Abstracts
A Family Systems Approach to Researching Childhood and Adolescent Obesity
In this symposium researchers will present studies using innovative family-level approaches in addressing childhood and adolescent obesity. Four papers will be presented that highlight: (1) direct in-home observational methods using video-recordings of family meals and in-home assessments of the home environments of children with and without obesity; (2) the use of mixed methods to triangulate data sources to gain a better understanding of the risk and protective factors for childhood obesity in the home environment; (3) dyadic data collection to assess dynamics in the home feeding environment; and (4) a community-based participatory research approach with families to prevent childhood obesity.
