Abstracts

“Famology” [Dead], “Family Science” [Life Support]: How is “Family Studies” Doing?

The purpose of this symposium will be to examine how well the family field as a whole is faring 30 years after Burr's proposal. More specifically, the symposium will examine how family studies/science is doing in the academy, among other social and behavioral sciences, and among the general public and popular media. Are "family studies" and "family science" alive and well or are they in need of life support, organ transplants (e.g., heart, brain), or just a dosage of daily vitamins? Does identity ambiguity still exist or have we solved that "disciplinary mental health" issue?
