Navigating the Publication Process: Observations From Two Editorial Assistants

For researchers in academia, producing publishable scholarly work is a challenging but necessary task. For many S/NPs, however, the process of submitting work to a journal for publication is unfamiliar, enigmatic and often intimidating. This session will demystify the peer-review process for S/NPs by discussing, from the perspective of two editorial assistants, both the process of submitting to a journal and of conducting critical reviews of manuscripts as a journal reviewer. Audience members will hear strategies for maximizing their involvement with a journal as an author and reviewer and then be given the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions.
