Plenary — What is Child Well-Being? Does It Matter How We Measure It?: Kristin Moore, Ph.D., Senior Scholar, Child Trends
Kristin Moore, Ph.D., is a Senior Scholar and Senior Program Area Director for Youth Development at Child Trends. She has been with Child Trends since 1982, studying child and family well-being, adolescent development, theeffects of family structure and social change on children, the determinants and consequences of adolescent parenthood, the effects of poverty and welfare on children and fathers, and positive development. Moore was the founding chair of the Effective Programs and Research Task Force for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy and served as a member of the initial Board of Directors. She currently serves on advisory boards for a number of organizations including several for the Department of Health and Human Services.
The well-being of children is often cited as a goal for public policy and programs; but the phrase holds different meanings for stakeholders in varied fields. This talk will suggest a framework for conceptualizing and measuring child well-being and well-becoming, both positive and negative; highlight the advantages of having comparable constructs and measures across fields; and share resources for assessing and monitoring child well-being.
