  • The best way to help with a disaster relief effort is to make a monetary donation to an organization with the capacity to help in both the long and short term. Two organizations that rate and offer guidance on selecting nonprofits for donations have compiled lists of nonprofits active in the relief efforts: Charity Navigator and Guidestar.

  • NCFR will continue to add to its Resource Collection How to Talk to Children About Tragedies. New entries added include a downloadable books, tips from school psychologists, and tips for caregivers of children staying in emergency shelters.

  • The University of MN Extension & NDSU Extension Service encourage professionals working with disaster recovery to check out The Recovery After Disaster: The Family Financial Toolkit and the Financial Recovery After Disaster Video Series for strategies and tools to help disaster survivors assess their current financial situation and make plans for long-term recovery.

  • Child Care Aware is tracking hurricanes and recovery efforts and offers many helpful resources for child care providers and parents including emergency preparedness tips.
