Youth, Parent, and Relative Perspectives on Family Finding

The family finding model provides child welfare practitioners intensive search and engagement techniques to identify family and other adults close to a child in foster care, and to involve these adults in developing and carrying out a plan for the emotional and legal permanency of the child. This Child Trends brief examines client perspectives on family finding efforts and identifies ways agencies can improve services.

Charles Murray’s Coming Apart is an interesting and thoughtful book. Moreover the subject, the migration of white upper middle class families and white working class families to opposite ends of civil society over the last half-century in income, education, marital and family stability, and societal participation, is an important one.

Basic Facts About Low-income Children Under 18 Years, 2011

"Children represent 24 percent of the population, but they comprise 34 percent of all people in poverty. Among all children under 18 years of age, 45 percent live in low-income families and 22 percent live in poor families. Being a child in a low-income or poor family does not happen by chance. But this has been the law in the People’s Republic of China since 1979. As a Fulbright Scholar to China in 2011–2012, I was able to take a closer look at this policy in action.
