Pew Internet & American Life Project

The Pew Internet & American Life Project is one of seven projects that make up the Pew Research Center, a nonpartisan, nonprofit "fact tank" that provides information on the issues, attitudes and trends shaping America and the world. The Project produces reports exploring the impact of the internet on families, communities, work and home, daily life, education, health care, and civic and political life. The Project aims to be an authoritative source on the evolution of the internet through surveys that examine how Americans use the internet and how their activities affect their lives.

Family Life Education. Working with Families Across the Life Span

Contemporary family life educators must operate in a wide range of settings and with increasingly varied populations and families. Welcoming a newborn child into an expectant family and surrounding community is fraught with emotion. Imagine how emotions in the delivery room might change if a newborn were pronounced "intersexed,"-a condition with external genitalia that are not clearly female or male, as occurs in 1 or 2 in 2,000 births.

Policy Institute for Family Impact Seminars

The Policy Institute for Family Impact Seminars aims to strengthen family policy by connecting state policymakers with research knowledge and researchers with policy knowledge. The Institute provides nonpartisan, solution-oriented research and a family impact perspective on issues being debated in state legislatures. We provide technical assistance to and facilitate dialogue among professionals conducting Family Impact Seminars in 27 sites across the country.

Evidence-Based Policymaking. Insights from Policy-Minded Researchers and Research-Minded Policymakers

This book is for those who believe that good government should be based on hard evidence, and that research and policy ought to go hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, no such bond exists. Rather, there is a substantial gap, some say chasm, between the production of knowledge and its utilization. Despite much contrary evidence, the authors propose there is a way of doing public policy in a more reflective manner, and that a hunger for evidence and objectivity does exist.
