But, during the stressful period prior to the separation-and often for several years afterward-even the most dedicated parents are unsteady.

In a current project, I am studying fatherhood in the 1950s and am trying to get a sense of how involved fathers were with their kids back then. The work has been a journey of sorts for me, because I was a youngster in the 1950s, and am part of the cultural and behavioral fabric I now endeavor to understand.

National Extension Parent Education Model (NEPEM)

NEPEM is not a parent education program. It is a list of 29 critical parenting practices organized into six themes. Together, these practices identified issues that Extension professionals across the entire United States could agree were important. The NEPEM model is not exclusive. The key is to understand that the model was and is supposed to serve as common ground for all who work in the Extension system.
