The Feminism and Family Studies Section of the National Council on Family Relations is seeking applicants for TWO awards to be given at the November 2012 NCFR Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. Applicants do not need to be members of NCFR, but we welcome new members to our section and organization.

Family formation and raising children among same-sex couples

The weekly adventures of gay couple Mitchell and Cameron and their baby on the popular television program Modern Family highlight a common contemporary media image of gay parenting: wealthy, urban, and White gay men raising an adopted child. But U.S. Census Bureau data suggest that the demographic characteristics of same-sex couples raising children are substantially more diverse than the predominant subjects of scholarly research and media images of lesbian and gay parenting.

Hello from the Feminism and Family Studies section! By the time readers have this issue of Report in their hands the conference will be weeks away and attendees will be finalizing their travel plans. Most likely a lot of the finalizing centers around the conference schedule. Let me make things a little easier for the FF section membership-and other members interested in attending FF sponsored sessions, papers, and meetings! FF section members won't be disappointed by the conference schedule as there are many stimulating programs to attend.
