Chair-Elect, Family and Health Section

As a celebration of the conclusion of the Walk to Phoenix and the 74th Annual Conference theme of “Families and Health,” the NCFR and the Family and Health Section have planned at 5K Fun Run/Walk that will take place on Saturday, November 3, 7-9am.

The 5K Fun Run/Walk will start right outside the Hyatt Regency and takes participants through several scenic locales in downtown Phoenix.  This event is non-competitive and intended for participants to enjoy walking or running together with colleagues and friends.

There are many exciting ways in which the 5K Run/Walk will not only benefit the participants in terms of a fun early morning workout but also benefit the local community. First, proceeds from the 5K will be donated to BorderLinks, a nonprofit education and service organization that focuses on the needs and lives of Mexican immigrants. BorderLinks will also be offering a pre-conference workshop on Tuesday evening, October 30.

Second, the t-shirts will be produced by Arizona Tumble Tees, a youth-run T-shirt screen printing business located in Downtown Phoenix. Since 2009, TumbleTees has been employing homeless youth ages 25 and under. All proceeds from TumbleTees t-shirt sales go to programs aimed at employing and supporting homeless and at-risk youth.

The cost to participate is $20 for professionals and $15 for students. Also, in an effort to be environmentally friendly, participants may choose the “green” option of opting out of receiving a t-shirt. Instead, the additional proceeds earned from NCFR not purchasing a t-shirt add to the donation to BorderLinks. Either way, your dollars are supporting families and youth.

Sign up online and pay by credit card at 5K Fun Walk/Run. Also, more details at Walk-to-Phoenix.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Phoenix and hope to see you the morning of Saturday, November 3!
