We had a wonderful Family Policy Section meeting in Orlando! Thanks to all who were able to attend. If you were unable to attend view the minutes on the FP Section website at www.ncfr.org/sections/fp/section-governance

At the meeting we recognized two outstanding students. First, we announced that Joanna Wu received the Feldman Internship Award. Joanna is a Ph.D. student in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. She has an internship at the Urban Institute's Income and Benefits Policy Center and will examine child care subsidy and welfare policies. Her goal is to understand better the policies applicable to her research about family structure, immigration, and the transition to adulthood.

Second, we presented Rachel Hagues with the Feldman Outstanding Research Proposal Award. Rachel is a PhD student in Child and Family Development at the University of Georgia. Her qualitative research proposal aims to discover if and how girls are taken advantage of or solicited for sex around schools in Tanzania and what risk and protective factors exist for these girls for prevention and intervention implementation.

Congratulations to both of you!

Please note that submissions for these awards, as well as the Feldman Travel Award, will be due to the Family Policy Section on June 1, 2012. Applications should be submitted to Diana Baltimore at dianab1@iastate.edu. For more information about these awards, please go to our section webpage.

We continue to fundraise to support the Harold and Margaret Feldman Fund. The Feldmans were long-time NCFR members and pioneers in the field of family policy. Margaret represented NCFR in Washington, D.C., serving as a family advocate. Please consider honoring the Feldman's legacy and becoming a Friend of the Feldmans.
