Jerica M. Berge Receives CFLE Award

The 2017 CFLE Special Recognition Award was presented to Jerica M. Berge, Ph.D., MPH, LMFT, CFLE, at the NCFR Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida. She is an associate professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Family Social Science. Dr. Berge sought out a faculty position within a medical school because she wanted to promote the importance of family in health care settings and research. Dr. Berge was recognized for her promotion of the CFLE credential in medical settings, development of family life education materials for group-based health care models, use of CFLE professionals in her intervention studies, and service related to the CFLE certification via leadership roles and positions within NCFR. Congratulations Dr. Berge!

New Parent Education Book  

Glen Palm, Ph.D., CFLE, is coauthor with Deborah Campbell of Parent Education. Working With Groups and Individuals, released by Cognella. The book revises Group Parent Education, first published in 2004, by introducing new concepts and strategies and expanding the approach for parent groups to include working individually with parents. CFLE-Approved Academic Programs

Newly Approved and Renewed      

National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) recently recognized the Purdue University Northwest, Human Development & Family Studies undergraduate program as a CFLE-approved academic program. Additionally, NCFR renewed the CFLE-approval of five programs for an additional 5 years. These include Brigham Young University, Marriage, Family & Human Development; Louisiana Tech University, Family and Child Studies; Pennsylvania State University, Shenango; Human Development & Family Studies; University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Family & Consumer Sciences; University of Wisconsin, Stout, Human Development & Family Studies.

 

New Members Join CFLE Committees

Robyn Cenizal, CFLE, and Julianne McGill, Ph.D., CFLE, are the newest members of the CFLE Advisory Board. Robyn will serve as an Employer Representative and Julianne as a Student/New Professional Representative. Alisha Hardman, Ph.D. CFLE, moved from the Student/New Professional position to Practitioner Representative. Susan Meyerle extended her term as a Practitioner Representative. The CFLE Advisory Board provides leadership for the ongoing development of the CFLE program as a method to advance and promote family life education as an important and emerging profession.

There are four new members of the CFLE Academic Program Review: Rakel Delevi, Ph.D., CFLE, Margaret Machara, Ph.D., CFLE, Jane Rose Njue, Ph.D., CFLE, and G. Kevin Randall, Ph.D., CFLE. Committee members review and evaluate university and college applications for CFLE program approval.
