New Curriculum Guides And Research on Communities Engaging With Youth

An Iowa State University (ISU) project to involve Des Moines youth in discussions of what their communities need has turned into an easy-to-use curriculum for communities anywhere to implement. Dr. Kimberly Greder, CFLE, professor of human development and family studies and family life extension state specialist for ISU’s Extension and Outreach, played a lead role in the development of The Design Dialogues curriculum, which is now available for free and for all through ISU Extension and Outreach. The project grew from research that shows schools and learning play an important role in community well-being but are often left out of neighborhood revitalization efforts.

Hilary A. Rose, Ph.D., CFLE, and her research were featured recently in the Montreal Gazette. Her study found that LGBTQ youth feel less support from their families, but that heterosexual youth are receiving more familial support. Interestingly, both groups of youth feel safer and more supported in their school environments. Dr. Rose is an associate professor of applied human sciences at Concordia University.

Mark Roseman, Ph.D., CFLE, new magazine called Contemporary Family. Global Resources for Effective Parenting will provide social science research, law, and government policy affecting diverse, evolving family structures with timely news and a Global Events Calendar for child advocates and family professionals.
