International Youth Day 2017

International Youth Day is observed annually on Aug. 12. The United Nations Headquarters in New York will celebrate and observe this event on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017: 

Organized by the United Nations Division for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) in collaboration with the United Nations Inter-agency Network on Youth Development (UN IANYD) Working Group on Youth and Peacebuilding, the event will consider the social development aspects of youth, peace and security. In particular, the event aims to cover issues, approaches and challenges to social inclusion for the promotion and maintenance of peace and security.

The theme for this year's observance is “Youth Building Peace.” The United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has committed to fostering peaceful societies and acknowledges that “sustainable development cannot be realized without peace and security.” Sustainable Development Goal #16 “aims to ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels.” Continue reading...
