Home visiting is increasingly recognized as an essential way to support families with young children. The professional expectations for the home visiting workforce continue to expand, as well. Given the alignment of Family Life Education (FLE) content and methodology with the goals of many home visiting programs, there is great opportunity for FLE to contribute to home visiting efforts.

More efforts are needed, however, to bring awareness to the value of FLE within home visiting and to ensure proper preparation.

This webinar, presented by Bridget A. Walsh, Ph.D., CFLE, and Carla A. Peterson, Ph.D., will explore linkages between FLE and home visiting — particularly Early Head Start’s Home-Based Option — and the merits and challenges of collaboration in delivering home visiting services. The presenters will compare home visiting and FLE competencies; present a model to guide and standardize home visitor training in Family Science programs; and discuss future directions.

By attending the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • compare and contrast the competencies of home visiting with those of Family Life Education to inform the knowledge, skills, and attitudes addressed in pre-service home visitor training;
  • understand the benefits of Family Life Educators delivering home visiting services; and
  • evaluate the strengths and challenges of collaborating with Early Head Start’s home visiting program.

Approved for 1 CFLE contact hour of continuing education credit.

Intended Audience:

  • Family Life Educators, faculty in Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) approved programs, those in the home visiting field

Prior Knowledge Required:

  • General understanding of Family Life Education
  • General understanding of home visiting
