A needs assessment is a tool that helps identify the strengths and needs of a family or community. Specifically, implementing this tool enables a program, curriculum, or approach to be more effective and better meet the needs, interests, and goals of the target audience. It can also be used to continuously improve a program by offering guidance on how to proactively plan, evaluate, and modify a program to help participants’ reach their goals more effectively.

The webinar will begin with an introduction to a needs assessment and an explanation of its value when working with families. A demonstration of how to form and implement a needs assessment will then be shared and include real-life examples to illustrate how best to utilize the tool in both an educational and community setting. Additional information will also be provided on how to incorporate technology when implementing a needs assessment, how to adjust it to a specific population, and how to teach others to develop their own needs assessment.

Overall, this webinar will benefit anyone seeking to develop or translate the skills necessary to prepare and administer a needs assessment. By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Develop a needs assessment to identify the characteristics and needs of individuals and families
  • Conduct a needs assessment to determine the differences between current conditions and desired outcomes
  • Employ a needs assessment in community settings
