Strategies for Practitioners to Receive Grant Funding

Finding and receiving funding to support practice-oriented projects can be challenging for Family Life Educators, Cooperative Extension agents, and those connected to non-profit organizations. This webinar will provide an overview of grant funding for practitioners including strategies to consider when exploring and applying for grants.
Overall, webinar attendees will increase their understanding of how to: identify the appropriate type of funding source for the scope of work intended; find organizations that provide financial support through grants to practitioners; and access and write a grant application. Insights into the review process and best practices for receiving funding will also be shared.
By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Differentiate research from service/practice-oriented grants;
- Understand the application and review process for grant applications; and
- Identify strategies and approaches for successfully receiving funding from foundations.

About the Presenter
W. Michael Fleming Ph.D., CFLE, is an associate professor at the University of Northern Iowa and serves as the director of research and evaluation for the Center for Violence Prevention. As a CFLE, he has been engaged as a practitioner in the areas of divorce education, violence prevention, and youth mental health. His scholarship, teaching, and community engagement focuses on the dynamics associated with interpersonal violence; systemic models of prevention and early intervention in gender violence; and engaging men in violence prevention and the development of healthy family relationships. To support this work, he has been involved in foundational grant writing and grant review panels at local, regional and federal levels for a number of years as well as working with numerous non-profit agencies over the years as they pursue such funding. He serves on the Iowa Department of Public Health Domestic and Sexual Violence Advisory Board, Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Abuse, Iowa Commission on the Status of Women, and has served on various Boards of Directors for community non-profits.
