It is important for scholars to receive funding to support their projects and provide services to families.  However, the grant writing process can take a lot of time and preparation. This is particularly challenging for those that are not familiar with the application and review process of the funding institution.

In this webinar, presenter Chalandra M. Bryant, Ph.D. will provide an introduction to the National Science Foundation’s process of funding proposals. Specifically, she will demonstrate how to find funding opportunities within the Directorate of Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences. She will also share with attendees instructions for writing effective broader impact statements and discuss the review process of proposals.

Overall, attendees will leave this webinar with the ability to:

  • Describe the various divisions and programs within the Directorate of Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences (SBE).
  • Identify funding mechanisms in SBE.
  • Execute higher quality impact statements.
  • Explain the Merit Review Process.

About the Presenter

Dr. Chalandra M. Bryant received her Ph.D. from the University of Texas and is currently a professor of Family Social Science and Faculty Fellow in Ambiguous Loss at the University of Minnesota. She served two years as a program director in the Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences at the National Science Foundation where she directed the Developmental Sciences Program. She has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Family Theory and Review and has received numerous awards including the New Contributions Award from The International Association for Relationship Research, the Reuben Hill Research and Theory Award from the National Council on Family Relations, and the Outstanding Young Professional Award from the University of Texas Alumni Association. She is also a co-author of the book, Family Stress Management: A Contextual Approach published by Sage.
