Twenty-first century families use technology for myriad purposes, including for information gathering, learning, and problem solving.

Yet, when it comes to teaching families, Family Life Education (FLE) professionals often are unprepared to deploy technology in the most constructive, responsive, and useful ways.

This webinar, presented by Susan Walker, Ph.D., will explore recent research on family technology and connect it to the available research on the use of technology in the classroom and in Family Life Education settings. Dr. Walker will discuss results from national data collected on family practitioners — NCFR members and Certified Family Life Educators among them — and will suggest best practices for preparing and supporting professionals to effectively integrate technology in practice.

By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • identify key ways in which adults use information and communications technology (ICT) for learning that suggest their expectations for technology use in FLE programs and college classrooms;
  • identify current technology use by FLE professionals and professors and the contextual influences on their technology use; and
  • propose practices and policies that best support current and future Family Life Education professionals on effective and responsible technology integration.

Ultimately, attendees will gain a deeper understanding from this webinar of the need for technology knowledge and skills, and of the current challenges practitioners and instructors face when it comes to adapting their practice to shifting digital expectations.

Approved for 1 hour of CFLE continuing education credit.

Intended Audience:

  • Family Life Educators and other family services professionals, college and university instructors, extension agents
