FAQ: Webinar on Item Response Theory / Rasch Modeling Using Stata 14

Here you'll find answers to technical and logistical questions you might have as you prepare for the NCFR webinar Item Response Theory / Rasch Modeling Using Stata 14.

  1. Can I use my current version of Stata?

No, you must have Stata 14. Have the free 90-day version installed before the workshop starts.
  2. I use SPSS, what can I do?

SPSS can save your dataset in a Stata version. They do this in an old Stata format, but Stata is upwardly compatible. Many find Stata much easier to use than SPSS
  3. Can I use my own data in the workshop?

Because of time constraints, use the provided dataset to work through examples.
  4. What do I need to know about Stata?

Nothing is assumed. You will be taught simple commands and use a wonderfully simple drop down menu.
  5. What if I have a Mac computer?

Stata works with PCs and Macs. I will use a Mac, but it looks/works the same on a PC. Please let Jennifer Crosswhite know if you are using a Mac to acquire the proper activation key.
  6. I don't know anything about IRT. Will I understand the webinar?

Dr. Acock tries not to assume any prior knowledge of IRT so that all will understand the webinar. It would help to read the course material before the Webinar
  7. Is Dr. Alan Acock an expert on IRT?

No. He has authored two books on Stata (A Gentle Introduction to Stata and Discovering Structural Equation Modeling Using Stata). Dr. Acock has attended workshops on IRT/Rasch and has used some standalone software to run models, but does not declare himself an expert on IRT/Rasch.
