We've got a dynamite faculty who teach small classes, so you can really unpack and explore the patterns and challenges that make up society. A degree in Sociology from Longwood means you'll be able to thoroughly examine social life, and demonstrate the people skills that employers find very attractive.

A dynamic and collaborative field, the Family Studies concentration for this degree encompasses sociology, psychology and social work. Our curriculum is the only undergraduate program in Virginia designated by the National Council on Family Relations as a Certified Family Life Educator curriculum. This distinction allows you an abbreviated track to becoming a Certified Family Life Educator and a competitive edge pursuing careers working with families.

What is a Certified Family Life Educator? It's someone whom The National Council on Family Relations recognizes as having the educational preparation essential to working with families.
