The Extension Gerontology Specialist, located within the Department of Health and Human Development, coordinates relevant and current information from a variety of sources to facilitate and deliver effective non-biased, researched-based educational programs that address the needs of an aging population, caregivers, families and professionals.
This specialist is expected to:
• Develop research and Extension programming, secure extramural funding, and publish research results in appropriate refereed and peer reviewed journals and Extension publications
• Develop, facilitate, or adapt audience appropriate dissemination or resources such as professional development or outreach materials for Extension Agents and other constituents throughout Montana
• Develop and maintain professional partnerships with Extension faculty, non-Extension faculty and stakeholders that advance the mission of Extension
• Conduct and interpret research related to gerontology
• Continue leadership and oversight of statewide Extension efforts in Kinship Navigator Support Groups and Caregiver Programming (currently Parenting a Second Time Around and Powerful Tools for Caregivers)
• Active participation in Department, College, Extension, and University service committees. Involvement in relevant aging community services and the professional activities at large
• Maintain timely accountability through reporting to Extension, internal and external stakeholders (such as state agencies, non-profits and foundations), and funding partners
• Document outcomes, impacts and successes in Extension scholarship
• Travel both within Montana and outside of the State will be required to support research, teaching and service expectations
• Teach one (1) graduate or undergraduate course in the Department of Health and Human Development annually
