Abstract(s)

Using examples drawn from their portfolios, four scholars will provide participants with concrete ideas for composing translational research that is (a) responsive to the priorities of public/private funders, (b) produces high quality products and publications, and (c) supports actionable findings with potential to inform policy and practice. Using their own funded research as, presenters discuss in brief their trajectory with respect to research and funding, illustrating strategies and priorities for pursuing funding and research products within those descriptions. Finally, a representative from the National Institutes of Health will provide the participants and audience with feedback and guidance on how researchers can work with philanthropy and government to ensure that the work they propose not only has rigor, but also is maximally responsive to the current funding environment and agenda. Participants will leave with specific strategies for developing fundable research that helps advance the knowledge base as well as promoting family well-being.

Objectives

(1) Based on multiple examples, participants will be knowledgeable regarding the funding trajectories of fellow scholars who conduct translational research. (2) Participants will obtain information regarding the relative priorities and likely funding opportunities in arenas related to the field of family science. (3) Participants will leave with specific strategies for developing fundable research that helps advance the knowledge base as well as promoting family wellbeing.
