Abstract(s)

As societies become more globally connected, families are impacted directly and indirectly. In fact, families often exist across international borders; for example, immigrant families, refugee families, and families with students studying abroad. This symposium will include a discussion of research regarding family processes, challenges and successes for those families who have members in different countries. Implications for family researchers and practitioners will be emphasized.

Objectives

Participants will be able to: (1) Identify strengths of transnational families; (2) Identify motivations, challenges and needs of transnational families; (3) Identify appropriate methods of family life education for transnational families.
