Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR), published by NCFR, seeks to publish sections related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for families in each forthcoming issue, beginning at the end of 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic and global response will mark a line in the sand in a way that few other events have in the history of the Family Science discipline. Like Glen Elder’s Children of the Great Depression, forthcoming articles and volumes will seek to understand how families were affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic, and how studying family resilience can better prepare for the next global crisis. 

In an effort to gather this forthcoming science, FR invites manuscripts relating to the study of families and COVID-19, including but not limited to:

• Infection and transmission within families; grief and mourning in the era of social distancing; policy and socioeconomic impacts.
• Research related to the secondary and tertiary ripple effects of the pandemic. 
• Exploring COVID-19-related changes such as media reports of:
  • spikes in child maltreatment
  • intra- and inter-personal strain of working parents taking on a larger role in helping children with their schoolwork
  • the reality that 4 of 5 jobs have been affected by the pandemic

Manuscripts may be submitted in any of the following formats:

• Emerging Ideas, Translating Discovery Science, and Lessons from the Field—vehicles for publishing significant emerging ideas; ideas requiring further development (theoretically, methodologically, or both); or advances having great potential to share research or practice that will move the field in fruitful, new directions.
• Full-length manuscript format for disseminating broader-reaching or more-developed research reports.
