Member News: New Appointment for Goldfarb; Anderson Recognized for Leadership

Katia Paz Goldfarb, Ph.D., a professor of Family Science at Montclair State University (MSU) since 2001, has been named the assistant vice president for Hispanic Serving Initiatives at MSU. Dr. Goldfarb is renowned for her research on Latino families and her work has been widely published and presented at many national and international conferences. At MSU, she was the founding chair of the Family Science and Human Development Department, which has since grown under her leadership to be the fourth largest at MSU with nearly 1,000 undergraduate students.
At NCFR, Dr. Goldfarb has served as chair of the Ethnic Minority Section, and the co-founding chair of the Latino/a Research Focus Group, among other duties. She is the program chair for the 2019 NCFR Annual Conference in Fort Worth, Texas.
Elaine A. Anderson, Ph.D., has concluded her term as chair of the Department of Family Science at the University of Maryland (UMD) after nearly a decade. Dr. Anderson is a nationally recognized leader and scholar in the field of family policy, and her research has been widely published and presented.
Dr. Anderson is a past president of the NCFR Board of Directors, a role she served while she was the UMD department chair. Among other duties, Dr. Anderson served as chair of the Family Policy Section, and has been a member of the Family Relations editorial board since 1995. She was named an NCFR Fellow in 2000.
Dean Boris Lushniak gratefully praised her contributions, noting that “Dr. Anderson's vision and energy have helped to advance the department and school in countless ways.” Dr. Anderson will return to her professor position full-time, teaching family and health policy and writing in both of these areas. She continues to be the co-director of the Maryland Family Policy Impact Seminar at UMD, which she founded.
