Cynthia B. Wilson, Ph.D., CFLE, was named executive director of the Florida Center for Prevention Research (FCPR), a research center affiliated with Florida State University (FSU), effective Feb. 1, 2019. Dr. Wilson is a faculty member of the Department of Family & Child Sciences at FSU, where she will continue to teach.

The mission of FCPR is to provide innovative research, education, training, and technological solutions to address the challenges of substance abuse prevention and other social issues among Florida's population. Since its creation in 2003, FCPR has managed projects in excess of $21 million, ranging from health care to youth programs. They currently have projects aimed at preventing sexual violence and bullying on middle and high school campuses, a social norms project at FSU aimed at reducing alcohol-related harm, and another social norms campaign at area middle schools focused on changing misperceptions among students about the prevalence of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use by their peers.

Dr. Wilson received all of her education at FSU, including a B.S. in Family & Child Sciences, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Family Relations. She returned to FSU as a faculty member in January 2018, having formerly taught at the University of Montevallo (Alabama) and Baylor University (Texas). She is passionate about providing programs that prevent problem behaviors and improve the lives of individuals, families and communities.

In addition to teaching and directing FCPR, Dr. Wilson is the coordinator of the Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) program in FSU's Department of Family & Child Sciences. She has been an NCFR member since 2002, a CFLE since 2007, and has taught a number of family life education programs in community and faith-based settings over the past 15 years, primarily in the areas of parenting, marriage, and human sexuality.
